Facing the rise in popularity

In the past decade,  the number of Coton de Tulear in the United States has grown at an unbelievable rate. Along with this rise in popularity, the Coton has  attracted the attention of a few breeders who wish to have the Coton recognized by the American Kennel Club. It is our belief that a takeover of the breed by AKC at this time would be extremely detrimental to the breed as a whole.
In an era where canines are facing a myriad of health problems caused by those who breed dogs  simply for monetary gain and without regard for the genetic health and well being of the resulting puppies, the effect on the  Coton would be disastrous.  This belief has led us, working in conjunction with other concerned breeders , owners and animal healthcare professionals to form the  Coton Health Link (an online Coton health information web site and open health registry). As dedicated breeders, we at CasaBlanca strive to produce sound, healthy puppies.  Many times, when a breed becomes well-known, the genetic health of the breed suffers and it becomes nearly impossible to obtain a "healthy" individual.
